The last 12 months have
been of more significance to the future of the Gulf
region than any other on record. And it's to do with
much more than simply a $100 barrel of oil.
When people living in the GCC in next 10 years from now
will look back at the last decade it will be remembered
for two overarching trends: setting the benchmark for
future growth and development and having to react to
some very tough questions. Let me put this into a
personal context. For me, 2007 was very different to
2006, both in a positive and negative sense.
Billions more dollars were spent domestically on
property and infrastructure investment. The foreign
investment also soared Stakes were taken in iconic
brands and businesses in sectors as varied as banking,
property, energy, infrastructure, healthcare and
manufacturing.
On a wider economic level, however it was the answers,
responses and non-responses to a string of tough
questions that made 2007 the most significant in the
Gulf's 26 year history.
However, the outlook for the UAE economy in 2008 is
rosy. The economy is expected to maintain its strong
growth of nine per cent real gross domestic product
(GDP) next year and will continue to follow a similar
trajectory until 2010.
The year ahead will be a stronger one for the UAE,
supported by a backdrop of robust earnings growth,
principally in non-financials, high oil prices, abundant
liquidity, and a steady real estate market.
All in all I see very vibrant economic activity in all
trading and manufacturing sectors in 2008 and beyond. We
are committed to support the “made in UAE” label in over
25 different manufacturing sectors.

install a turnkey trolley system for the manual
sortation and storage of uniform rental garments.
The system consists of a 3-level steel structure, of
which the 2nd and 3rd level is mainly designed for the
storage of clean uniforms on trolleys for the period
between the end of the wash process and the delivery

Furthermore there is a staging area and a loading door
solution to optimize the delivery truck loading process.

RBM Speeds
throughput and delievery with technology |
|
By implementing the Eton
system, high- end manufacturers of office chairs in both
Sweden and Denmark have accomplished astonishing
results. With a total reduction in throughput time of
50% and a productivity increase of 20-30%, the results
speak for themselves.
“Before we installed the
Eton system three years ago, we experienced problems
with our internal logistics, including lengthy
throughput time, and process control,” says the
production manager. “For us, the Eton system, in
conjunction with our GERBERcutter, has been a complete
turnaround. Going down from eight days to one day in
total throughput time obviously had a tremendous impact
on our work-in-process and the ability to service our
customers.”
